The Day As The Doctor

Last weekend, I joined photographer Jeff Stanford on a walk around Downtown Frederick, Maryland, dressed in full Doctor Who cosplay.  I’m continuing to explore what cosplay means to me and what it’s place is in my life.  I don’t really have firm answers for either of those questions/thoughts, but I thought a photo shoot on a sunny, slightly less brisk winter day (though admittedly not warmer by much) sounded like a good idea.

Here are the results.

Ten is my Doctor.  Obviously.  I admit, however, that when I saw the above photo, it was impossible for me to ignore that I look more like Matt Smith.  That said, I may cosplay the Eleventh doctor at some point in the future, but for the time being, I’m sticking with Ten.  The photo ends up creating a fascinating hybrid of the two doctors (i.e. Ten’s brown suit, blue screwdriver and hairstyle doing a quintessential Eleven pose).  After all, they are all the same man.

We tackled a few classic Tennant poses.

[…] What makes Awesome Con extra special for me, though, is that I associate it with Doctor Who.  Every year that I have attended, there has been at least one high-profile cast member on the Guest List.  It was the reason I finally took the plunge and watched the series and I find that I enjoy the atmosphere there most.  I heard that Billie Piper (i.e. Rose Tyler) would be one of the guests in attendance at Awesome Con 2014.  At the time when this news broke, I had only heard about the sci-fi series.  Many a friend loved the show and, as I was already planning to go, the prospect of being there, surrounded by Whovians ooh-ing and aah-ing over everything in the fandom, I thought I should probably sit down and watch it, so as not to be left out.  Not only did I finish seasons 1 – 3 in a matter of days, but the following year I became a cosplayer, in full getup as the Tenth Doctor.
